Get to Know Lago Vista & The North Shore

Lago Vista is a beautiful community situated in the heart of the north shore area and is located about 20 driving miles northwest of Austin, Texas.  While this area has historically been known as a vacation destination and a retirement community, it is quickly becoming one of the fastest growing communities in the vicinity.  The community encompasses more than 15 miles of shoreline on Lake Travis.

Whether sailing on Lake Travis, hiking or biking our hills, or enjoying the beautiful sunsets, Lago Vista provides a quality of life that many people desire. We strive to provide a quality of life that preserves the natural beauty while promoting economic growth.

Our private parks offer a variety of outdoor activities including swimming, soccer, fishing, hiking, and picnicking along with excellent meeting and exercise facilities. As the gateway to the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge, bird watchers can observe the endangered Golden-cheek Warbler and Black-capped Vireo in their natural habitat.  Other native wildlife include deer, fox, and armadillos.  Our three golf courses (two eighteen hole golf courses and one par-3 executive golf course) provide enjoyable golf opportunities for everyone from beginners to pros.

Lago Vista supports an active lifestyle with many local groups offering opportunities to participate in theater, recreation or city government.  There are many opportunities for school children to participate in extracurricular activities as well as receive an excellent education.

People are attracted to Lago Vista because of its nationally recognized golf courses and the many lake oriented activities.  Home prices are still affordable compared to other lake communities in the area.
The Rusty Allen Airport is located 2 miles north east of town. It has one asphalt runway 3,808 ft x 50 ft. The airport is continuing to experience more growth in operations and based aircraft. The airport now has 59 based aircraft, 49,200 square feet of public ramp space, self serve aviation fuel, and three aircraft maintenance shops for major and minor repairs.

The airport also houses the Lago Vista Airpower Museum and Library, which was founded in May 1992. The goal of the Museum is to collect and display models of military aircraft from World War I to the present and other military memorabilia such as: guns, flying helmets, photographs and miscellaneous items.  The museum collection now includes: 325 models, approximately 400 photos, 1,000 books, two large radial engines, one jet, several guns, and hundreds of miscellaneous items.
